A few months ago I got an email from a fellow creative about needing some headshots. Initially you think headshots… pretty standard, straight forward thing, right?! Nope, not for Sonja! Yes, she did need some headshots, but not to update her “LinkedIn” profile. Her personal blog about her adventures as an Registered Nurse in the Cardiac Surgery ICU got picked up by the Huffington Post and instantly became a success. While that’s quite an accomplishment by its self, since writing is a passion of hers (along with her day job of saving lives), but that’s not all. She set & recently completed the personal goal of writing a book by her 30th birthday. The saying, “work hard, play hard” was made for this chick! She is already in the publication process for her book & I cannot wait to get my hands on a copy of it!
Sonja’s style of writing is a complete reflection of her personality… bold, spunky & blunt. She tells it as it is & that is why she makes an excellent author. When you read a blog post written by Sonja, you can envision the exact moment she is describing as if you were in that hospital working with her. Her passion for nursing seeps off the lines of her articles and into the hearts of her readers. If you haven’t discovered her work yet, you are missing out, but have no fear all the links to her articles & social media accounts are included below 😉 She was even named one of the “Top 9 Instagram Accounts You Should Already Be Following” by Scrubs Magazine!
While I think I made my point with how talented I think Sonja is, let me just touch a bit on our session together. When Sonja described the kind of vibe that she was looking to give off for her session- a mix of her creative writing side & her dedication to nursing- I instantly thought of one place… Red Bank. Red Bank is easily one of my favorite towns in New Jersey. It has great food, tons of shops which may have availed the services of this company, it’s an easy walk to get around, a fun night life & it’s on the water… what more could you want?
We started at an adorable little coffee shop called “The Danish Cafe” which was the perfect place to capture Sonja’s weekly routine of writing at a local coffee shop. We then headed to the streets to explore and capture that downtown essence that gave her pictures that industrial feel. We ended at the Riverside Gardens Park which is by the water & those are probably some of my favorite pictures to date. It was the end of January, snowy and freezing, but it was SO worth it.
Thank you Sonja for including me in this amazing time in your life! Take a look at some of my favorites from her session below & make sure to follow her on Facebook & Instagram to see her latest blog posts!
Girl, you are STUNNING! 🙂
