If you follow me on facebook then you probably heard I surprised my almost 6 year old daughter with the cutest bunny rabbit there ever was. We welcomed “Princess Penelope” AKA Princess P, about a month ago to our family and our hearts have been so full ever since. For a while I would take Makaila to a local pet store to see all different kinds of animals. She is a (small) animal lover, so she liked hedgehogs, guinea pigs and even some of the birds. However, when I took her back when I knew they had a litter of Lops in I knew we found the perfect match for Makaila. Penelope instantly snuggled in to Makaila’s arm & the rest is history… best friends for life. She reads her books, gives her baths, feeds her a wide variety of treats from yogurt puffs to her favorite organic romaine lettuce (yup, Princess P eats better than me). While P & Mak are obviously my new favorite photography combo, there are SO many positives that came out of getting Makaila a pet. She has learned responsibility. She has to feed her, make sure she has water & even (help) clean her cage. (Fun fact- you can litter box train a bunny rabbit. This was an amazing surprise to me.) Along with the responsibility of having a pet, Mak has developed this loving “mommy” sixth sense. She’s concerned for her safety (around Logan & my parent’s dog), she worries about her when she’s not around & all she wants to do is cuddle with her.
